Havent watched in a while see you have a nice red tool chest. Looks new❤
THIS! THIS IS ALMOST EXCATLY the same like mine… What in earth can be wrong with my machine?? I would really liked to see How you replaced the new coil… cause…I was thinking if I made some mistake on that part. The carburetor was excatly the same like on my lawnmover…I also have 158cc engine but it is 550 series… I hope you read my other comment in your another video. Did you change the sparkplug to some different one there? Some different model?
And…now I started my lawnmower after it had been of two hours …AND IT STARTED LIKE ANGEL! And run like Angel the engine sound was SO nice and not wavy att all… BUT after cutting grass like 5 minutes it stopped totally from ”fly”. Totally. And then it did not start again. And the ”silencer” surroundings feels SO hot! The sparkplug that I use is RJ19LM. Is it possible that I have insert the coil someway wrong? Oh…I SO HOPE you could help me.
Hi! I really liked your video thank you 😊 My lawnmower is little bit different but I did the Same Repair like you did dis video. ai manage to start my lawn Mover but the problem didn’t go way. The main issue with my lawnmover is that it Won’t re- start. I have allready bought a new carburetor And the coil …but no…the lawnmover wont work. Today I changed the coil and the engine started SO easily! BUT! The engine sound was little wavy but cause I have also changed the carburetor gasket and diaphragm I decided to adjust juuust a little bit the little metal part that the ”regulator spring ” is attached to. I listened the engine sound and when I thought it was good I left it there. BUT…then it did not re-start …BUT it has had this same problem through this whole repairing journey. If I let the lawn mover stop, it wont re-start. And…yes…I have also put the new spark-plug during this ”journey”. Just to mention…we did overfill the ”oiltank” on the beginning of summer…but I have used and cut the grass with it couple of times despite the overfilling and it did not give any ”white exhaust” from the silencer or nothing like that …the problem has remain the same the whole time…the engine won’t re-start after stopping it. Could you Please help me or give me some advices? My husband is blind so I have to try to fix these things myself. With warm regards, Matleena from Finland
Thanks. You made my day.
What kind of table/lift is that?
Here is an old video of the lift.
Nice machine. I noticed on some of the Quantums I have worked on that muffler bolts were missing. The last one, I couldn't find a bolt and it would take two weeks to get one on line. I went to Tractor Supply and found a bolt, purchased some sleeves, and made a bolt. It's still working.
Right on Jim.
Briggs Quantums are the best, followed by Tecumseh Snow KIngs and Kohler Command verticals. But give me a Kohler K-series any day!
You are right Ken Good to hear from you
Nice hoard of parts..Missed ya Bruce. I always learn something and glad you posting on a regular bases. Cheers!
Thanks for watching (again)
Thank you very much for putting this video up. I found it very knowledgeable and now my Lawnmower runs a treat. Thank you.
There will be a happy owner. Looked like a write off until Uncle Bruce did his magic. Good save on this one Bruce. Stevo
Thanks Stevo J
Hello my friend. We love our quantums. I've collected a few this season. Lots of rain here this season so the grass is really growing, I'm busier than a 1 legged man in a butt kicking contest. I've had quite a mowers come in with generic plugs that didn't work very good, I never use them. Anyway nice mower for someone you got there. Have a great weekend
Great to here from you Dave. Yes it is our Canada Day on monday
Excellent work..gearing up to do a similar job on one of my old doors as well
Thanks
Bruce I reuse cable ties too but I also try and buy reusable ones. That’s a very clean machine, nice too.
Thanks. At work we would get bags of them, Hundreds in a bag. Thanks
Nice machine. Got lucky with just a bent blade. Did not know that you could fix a mower with a drywall anchor. Will keep that one in mind. Thanks Bruce. Stevo
Thaks for watvhing Stevo J
Bruce I just replaced the plastic gear that failed on a friend’s pressure washer with a metal one that goes over the shaft and it ran fine when I tested it out for the first time. I gave it back to my friend it started once for him then locked on him. I got it unstuck but it won’t run now. Lots of time into this project 🤔.
Very nice Bruce! Congrats on the Quantum! Have a few here myself and have grown to love that engine! From Sophia, N.C., USA
They are good engines.
WRT the blade comment, a wise old sage once said, "A thing of beauty is a joy forever". Gifted my 18 year old Craftsman riding mower to the sis in law. Replaced the trans axle last year. Cheap Spicer licensed junk. Still runs and mows like a champ. Nothing but good things to say about Craftsman.
Thanks Spoik.. Good yo hear from you my friend.
A friend at work heard I fix and sell mowers. She asked if I had any for sale. I had a craftsman with a pulsa prime, a Husqvarna with a Honda and a Troy bilt with a 190cc quantum. Of course she picked the Quantum. Hated to see it go😅
I so get that. This one was hard to let go as well. Low hours quantum
How's she goin'? Nice to see you back at it Bruce and you have once again worked your magic on this Quantum. Nice job. Take 'er easy!!
Thanks, you too!
With you on plugs. I have been working on small engines since 2011 & have bought the grand total of one new plug. And that one is still in the box because it turned out to be unnecessary.
I do throw away most of the chinese ones. Just me.
I have the same mower built 08 06 2004 starts first pull every time paid $40.00 US from the original owner with the Bag and owners manual the oil still looks new with annual maintenance, Long live Quantums!
L L T Q Long Live the QuantumRight on . LOL
Keep it 😊
It is gone
It is gone
Nice.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Awesome looking lawn mower thank you for the video
S goo to hear from you again.
Have that engine also. It will never wear out mowing my postage stamp back yard. I must have missed it, what was the white plastic plug for?
It is a drywall anchor that the previous owner used to repair the handle bar.
My neighbour gave me her Lawn-boy with a Honda 160 OHC like new Landscaper cuts her lawn now!
Good catch.
Great score and repair
Thanks Jim
I have a quantum that smokes upon start up. It's not flooded because I always shut it off with the fuel valve. It's an auto-choke. Can you make any recommendations of what can be done to fix it?
Well you need to know if it is too much gas or is it oil being burned.
love the quantums also. They are just a little pricey to rebuild.
They are tough.
Yea but for other 10/15 years it’s cheap 😊
@@philliphall5198 right
Nice score Bruce and a good recovery.
Thanks so much.
Yo yo me old mucker.. not bad for a 20 year old.. and not a bent crank... Result.. love the left hand pull technique.. love an old flat head.. man I can't believe you reuse your zip ties lol
Ya my right are isn't working right now
I gap the plug at .35 thousand. What do you run the gap at? Million thanks. St.Paul,Minnesota.
I gap them at 30 th
I always enjoy it when you pull out a supply of back up parts.
LOL So do I
After six decades I've noticed my engine no longer runs at it's maximum.
You can adjust the spring n the throttle.
Still watching from South Carolina. In the 90s here today.
Wow. Hot!!!
100 West Texas by door system
@@philliphall5198 Texas is the hottest place I have ever visited.
@@adnacraigo6590hOT Mexico in August is HOT
@@BrucesShop Why would you go there in August?
Nice fix Bruce - and I learned at trick for saving tie wraps 👍👍
LOL. I thought I was cheaper than most people. Thanks Claus
Luv a Quantum with a primer bulb, just doesn’t get any better than that IMO. Great trick with the zip tie, why have I never thought of that before?
Sometimes I have to search for one so this helps.
You can take a primered Quantum out of the shed in spring, prime it 10 times and have it start on the first pull. Try that with an automatic choke engine!
@@jimyeske8498 My last repair was an autochoke Quantum
@@jimyeske8498 yep! Same goes for fall leaf cleanup when it’s really cold out - you’ll be spraying carb cleaner into an auto choke engine, but hit the primer 6-7 times on a cold day and she’ll fire up on the first try.
@@mjg263 Butttt… If you take the primer base off to rebuild the carb and the primer base is warped, you’ll curse it for hours trying to get it to seal again. 🙂
Well done, Bruce!
Thanks for watching
@@BrucesShop If you give those Quantums a chance, they will literally last forever!
@@jimyeske8498 I agree
Good Morning Bruce! If you like getting more use out of zip ties, there is another method you might try instead of cutting it. Insert a small flat head screwdriver where the notch 'locks' the strap. Push slightly and it 'unlocks'. The long tab can be passed back through and thus be reused. This can be done several times without any issues. Good luck my friend.
Great tip.
Great idea
It's a miracle that the out put shaft key was not sheared because of the condition of the blade
I have not seen many quantums break a key. Thanks for the great comment.
@@BrucesShop you are welcome Mr Pender 😎💪👍😁
Het stranger! Great video, as always.
Thanks again Bill
Thanks from NB for another great video, Bruce!
Glad you enjoyed it
My weld held but the insides of the muffler is shot shot and too loud for my liking. As of 2024 when I write this Amazon has a John Deere OEM Muffler OEM for $136.00 (AM119635 M92365 - STX30 STX38). It has end caps that look to me machine formed, not welded. Reason I noticed this is you can get a compatible (not OEM) version from China for around 110 to 120 but it has some sketchy helds on the end caps that that drift all over the place and the flange weld is not a nice as the OEM. I can get generic round 1" muffler for 9.99 to weld on the original exhause pipe with discharge straight down from the mower (I'll double check it won't heat the belt up). I'm not out much if it fails to work other than my time and 10 bucks. Any thoughs?
I enjoy fixing things first.
I usually pull the fuel filter that's inside the fuel line add an external filter and add a fuel shut off valve
Good idea.
We have a Honda HRR216 that came with our house, 20 years ago. It was at least 3 years old at that time. We opted to buy the contents of the shed and it was a deal. The Honda mower and a 70's Troy Bilt tiller (in perfect condition), along with a host of other high quality tools and power equipment, all for $1,800. We used the mower for 10 years without any issues, then, the drive started to slip. Eventually, the wheels would not drive at all. The mower is too heavy to push on our partly hilly grounds so it had to be fixed. Honda wanted over $200 for a new tranny. I had a look at the transmission without removing it from the machine, just removed the spring to allow cover (and spring anchor point), removal, far less work. What I found inside (besides no oil), was the bevel gear that engages the worm drive when the clutch is engaged was worn to the point it did not mesh anymore. At the time Honda would not furnish any parts, full trans unit or nothing. So, we were stuck. But, then I realized that if I took the bevel gear out and flipped it around, I'd essentially have a new gear. So, that's what I did. Then I filled the case with 90 gear oil and put the cover back on. The fix worked for 10 years. Then, last week the wheels refused to roll backwards (they did not do this when I made the original fix), and, the drive was very weak. Once again, I opened the trans case and for a second time found no lubricant. The bevel gear did not show any wear though. What I surmised was that the clutch cable had stretched and could not actuate the gear to worm drive. With these earl models there was no cable adjustment. This time before putting the bottom cover back on I filled the upper half of the case with grease and gear oil. Then, after setting the mower back on her wheels, I took a small bolt and, after forcing the cable back through the conical spring at the bail handle, dropped it "down" the spring so it acted as a chock. That effectively shortened the cable. The drive then worked like new once more. After this cutting season ends I intend to drill and tap the case and install a drain/fill point so the Lub. can be replenished far more easily. I'd like to get another 20 years out of this machine. We have an acre of grass so the mower has high hours after at least 23 years use but the engine remains strong. It does not burn any oil !. I change the engine oil twice each year and use crank flush each time, that goes a long way. With the first fix 10 years ago, the drive wheels were completely bald so going uphill was frustrating. Honda was asking way too much for new ones. So, I bought a bicycle tire (the knobbiest one on offer), measured the wheel circumference and cut the tire to match. Used self tappers to "retread" the wheels. As the rubber is very much more subtle than the OEM plastic, the grip is impressive, better than new. I'm getting older now so, giving some thought to fixing-up our 62" three blade Massey garden tractor mower and using it with our 1977 Massey Ferguson 1655. No more walking those many kilometers to mow......................
Thanks
Bruce, I've been hunting for this information for three days, Tecumseh TVS115 57004c, 4.5 hp Murray lawn mower. I have the original manual but it doesn't show the linkage. I have the two linkages reversed in the holes on the governor arm so I'll correct that . Thanks for posting this.
Thanks for watching
Hi where can I find a complete carburetor?
Amazon
Just watched a video. If transmission fluid comes out back the seal in the front of the xfer case is bad and needs replacing. Just watched before this video. 5 basic problems with gm xfer cases. Hope that helps
OK
Thank you so much for this video. Just got mine back out for nostalgia after buying batteries and the boom would not lift or lower, but every other function works. New project now
Great fun. Thanks for watching.
I had one do that and a littl screw had gotten stuck or sucked down the carb through the intake and clogged the intake tube
You are lucky it didn't make into the cyyinder
